CATL has dropped a major announcement, revealing new electric vehicle (EV) battery technology innovations with the world’s first Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery called the Shenxing Plus battery with 4C ultra-fast charging. The Shenxing Plus battery was showcased at the Beijing Auto Show.

The new Shenxing Plus EV battery comes with innovative features that can add a massive 370 miles or range in merely 10 minutes of fast-charging, completely setting a new standard for fast-charging EV batteries around the world. Also, the battery has a Continuous Long-Term Charging (CLTC) range that surpasses 620 miles. This would mean that your long journeys on the road in your EVs will be filled with convenience without any worries about stopping for EV charging. 

The Shenxing Plus battery was built from CATL’s previous battery offering the Shenxing SuperFast Charging Battery, which was first revealed in August 2023. The Shenxing SuperFast Charging Battery could add 248 miles of range in 10 minutes. With the new Shenxing Plus compared to its predecessor, there is an astounding 122 miles of range difference while being more affordable and reliable due to the company’s leverage of advanced lithium iron phosphate chemistry. 

The source of the Shenxing Plus battery’s outstanding performance comes from its innovative design and materials, where the company included a granular gradation cathode and 3D honeycomb-shaped anode material that improves energy density and charging efficiency. In addition, the battery’s single-piece casing enhances the internal space utilization and gives an energy density of 205 Wh/kg. 

The results of CATL’s innovative approaches led the company to top the global EV battery market for seven consecutive years in 2023 along with a market share of 36.8%. CATL’s also plans for its LFP batteries include making them more accessible and affordable cutting down by 50% in cost in the middle of 2024. This would prove useful as the company provides batteries to Tesla, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota.
