Toyota’s Electric SUV Production Will Be Worth $1,4 Billion In The Indiana Plant

Toyota’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plans will add a large investment of $1.4 billion in its plant in Princeton, Indiana. The Indiana plant will be used to manufacture the company’s large three-row EV for the United States (U.S.) EV market.

The investment made by Toyota for this Indiana plant is projected to bring around 340 jobs to the existing workforce in the plant, which will total around 7,500. employees. As for the three-row EV that Toyota is making, it will be produced on the same line that manufactures its Sienna and Highlander models. Although it is important to note that the details of the three-row EV are still not public, its EV built in Kentucky has been identified as the bZ5X.

Moreover, the investment will also fund a new assembly line for Toyota’s battery pack assembly, which would be supplied to its upcoming battery manufacturing plant in North Carolina. The North Carolina plant will schedule its operation in 2025. 

Tim Hollander, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, expressed his enthusiasm for the Indiana plant manufacturing its three-row EV in a news release stating, “We take great pride in producing quality products while providing long-term, stable employment no matter the changes in our industry. Our team is committed to delivering this new product with the same quality and performance that Toyota customers expect.” 

Hollander also further states that the new EV will be “chassis-based,” meaning that Toyota may leave its skateboard-based EV architecture that involves the battery pack as the structural component of the EV’s body.

As Toyota is making big investments in expanding its EV lineup, the company is using its existing models to electrify them as it was suggested earlier that its popular Highlander may go full-electric. Moreover, the investment With Toyota making big investments for its EV lineup, we can expect more EV offerings from them by 2026 as the company continues to expand. The large three-row EV model build from Toyota’s Indiana plant is scheduled to go into production in 2026.
